Global Shakespeare Project: Global Shakespeare and Digital Humanities Workshop. NYU-AD. October 7-9, 2019.
Presentation Title: All the Hamlets: DH in today’s classroom and tomorrow’s English department
This session offers an introduction to the practical integration of digital humanities tools and methods in the undergraduate literature classroom and reflects on some larger disciplinary implications. The opening presentation will provide an overview of easy-to-use tools for reading and responding to literature and offer a case-study of a collaborative adaptation project of Shakespeare’s Hamlet and its evolution through the application of digital writing and mapping tools. More broadly, the session aims to highlight the ways in which digital humanities can support and extend the diverse learning goals of studying literature and to consider the role of digital humanities and other interdisciplinary approaches in reconceptualizing the Global English department. Participants will be invited to shape the discussion portion of the session, which could include sharing ideas of classroom activities and projects, addressing challenges of using digital humanities tools in teaching, and/or discussing the potential of Global Shakespeare and digital humanities to contribute to the future of the discipline.
